Conspiracy theory peddler Alex Jones admitted in court Wednesday that the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School was real, citing his newfound belief after a day of brutal testimony offered in court by the parents of one of the children who was murdered. 

Jones is trying to fend off a $150 million defamation lawsuit from the parents of Jesse Lewis, a 6-year-old boy who was shot and killed in the 2012 attack at a school in Newtown, Connecticut.

Jan. 6, 2021, was madness. Without a proper account of that day, the stain of its violence and betrayal, already indelibly etched into the national history, could continue to spread, shading and infiltrating every institution low and high until finally, this ‘great experiment’ collapses in on itself in a heap of dingy authoritarianism.

Tonight the Select Committee to Investigate the January 6 Attack on the U.S. Capitol will convene its eighth public hearing where investigators will pore over a gutwrenching 187-minutes of former President Donald Trump’s dereliction during the Capitol attack.

Tonight’s hearing will start at 8 p.m. ET and it is expected to be the final public hearing.

Cassidy Hutchinson’s testimony was an arguable watershed moment for the Jan. 6 committee’s probe into the coup that investigators say former President Donald Trump nearly pulled off last year.

On the day of the insurrection, and after then-President Donald Trump delivered a speech from the Ellipse that inspired a mob to lay siege, he desperately wanted to go to the Capitol. 

In his remarks that afternoon, he told the mass of his supporters he would walk with them to the Capitol no less than twice. They would “go together,” Trump said to wild cheers.

Between the Supreme Court and the U.S. Capitol, Americans are currently caught between two major historic events that have now collided: Most recently the overturn of Roe v. Wade, and before that affront to human rights, the investigation of the attack on the U.S. Capitol and the mounting and damning evidence of former President Donald Trump’s direct role in those insurrectionary acts.

For its fourth hearing, the January 6 committee provided the nation with a battery of new details about a plot that investigators say former President Donald Trump, his attorneys, advisers, members of his administration, and some members of Congress deployed so that the 45th president could stay in power despite losing the 2020 election to now-President Joe Biden.

A man who appears to be seen taking photos of security checkpoints and hallways in the U.S. Capitol during a tour led by Republican Representative Barry Loudermilk on Jan. 5, 2021, is also allegedly seen—and heard—in footage captured from January 6 where he is outside of the Capitol screaming threats at Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, and Reps. Jerry Nadler and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

This week, opponents of the Jan. 6 committee’s investigation into the attack at the U.S. Capitol will form a united front.

In itself, this is not news. This has been the standard for the past 11 months, where right-wing talking points continue unabated even as investigators rack up more and more evidence, according to a federal judge, that former President Donald Trump was very likely part of a criminal conspiracy to overthrow the 2020 election.

Sarah Palin is running for a seat in the House of Representatives now that a vacancy has been left open by the late Don Young. Meghan McCain, the daughter of the late Arizona Sen. John McCain, is hawking a struggling memoir to renew interest in herself, and presumably in the “traditional values” of the Republican Party. 

Steve Schmidt is having none of it. And he had no problem airing out the reasons why over the weekend.

Grasping for a favorable verdict, ex-cop Thomas Webster has told jurors trying his case in Washington, D.C., that when he came to the Capitol on Jan. 6 and proceeded to charge a police officer with a metal pole before tackling him and choking him, it was just self-defense. 

The 56-year-old and his attorney have relied on Webster’s experience as a former U.S.

“I’m not getting in the car.”

This is what former Vice President Mike Pence said on Jan. 6, 2021 to Tim Giebels, the lead special agent tasked to protect him.

Thousands of rioters, many of them armed with weapons makeshift and otherwise, were laying siege to the U.S. Capitol while clamoring to hang him, the second person in line for the presidency of the United States. This conversation reportedly happened just before 2:30 PM.

It’s going to be a long weekend for Ginni Thomas. 

The right-wing activist and Q-Anon conspiracy theory-spouting wife of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas is reportedly on the cusp of receiving a subpoena from Select Committee to Investigate the January 6 Attack on the U.S. Capitol, CBS reported Friday.

Friday made for a very busy day in court as deals were struck, guilty pleas were entered and sentencing dates scheduled for defendants facing charges—including conspiracy—related to the Jan. 6 assault of the U.S. Capitol. 

First up before Senior Judge Royce Lamberth in Washington, D.C., was ex-police officer Jacob Fracker. The 30-year-old pleaded guilty Friday to corruptly conspiring to obstruct or impede the counting of votes by Congress on Jan. 6.

I had finished a dinner hours earlier of panuchos and taquitos but as a traveling woman with a ravenous appetite egged on by much mezcal, I accepted an invitation to search for good street food just before midnight.

Former White House trade adviser to former President Donald Trump, Peter Navarro, is currently shilling a memoir. In his book, In Trump Time, he says that it was he and conspiracy blowhard Steve Bannon that were responsible for coordinating an effort among congressional legislators to stop certification of Joe Biden’s win in 2020.

Fresh off his losses in court over harassing the parents of murdered school children, Alex Jones is now suing the Jan. 6 Committee in hopes of stopping investigators from reviewing records that they say are key to understanding precisely who was involved—and how—in Donald Trump’s scheme to overturn the 2020 election results.

Unsurprisingly, Jones indicated in his lawsuit filed at the U.S.

The family of Elijah McClain, a young Black man who died after police restrained him with a carotid hold—a now banned maneuver—may receive a $15 million settlement from the city of Aurora, Colorado.

First reported by CBS News, the settlement figure was confirmed by several sources to a local CBS affiliate and described as a “tentative” agreement.

McClain was 23 years old when he was killed in August 2019.
