Harry Styles gives Candace Owens exactly the response she deserves, a barely there one

GOP political pundit Candace Owens took aim at an unlikely source in singer-songwriter Harry Styles when the English musician became the first man to grace the cover of Vogue magazine alone this month. Styles appeared in a dress, blowing up a blue balloon, which seemed to trigger Owens as if she didn’t know she could wear dresses and blow up balloons, too. “There is no society that can survive without strong men,” Owens tweeted on Nov. 14.

12 times Trump really did say that awful, racist thing you thought had to be fake news

President Donald Trump has truly been a president for racists and white supremacists, often sparking violent reactions and liberating this group of what is arguably the country’s most hateful people. Just this summer, more than 360 tracked counterprotests surfaced in response to the Black Lives Matter movement, with 40 of them, or almost 12%, ending in violence, according to the Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project nonprofit’s U.S. Crisis Monitor.

‘Vaccine, vaccine, vaccine, vacciiiiiiiiiiiiiine’: Dolly Parton helps fund Moderna COVID-19 vaccine

The beloved country singer Dolly Parton seldom disappoints, from her proclamation during an interview with Billboard that “of course Black lives matter” to her nonprofit effort mailing free books to children each month. Now she’s out here helping fund a potentially life-saving coronavirus vaccine. Following the biotechnology company Moderna’s announcement that its coronavirus vaccine was reporting 94.

Twitter users push back on suggestion canceling student debt would ‘anger’ those who paid off loans

Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer seems to have suggested in a recent interview that President-elect Joe Biden bypass Congress and push up to $50,000 of student loan relief per person through via executive order in the first 100 days of his presidency. It’s not necessarily a new idea. Schumer and Sen. Elizabeth Warren announced a resolution in September that would accomplish the same goal, and President Donald Trump has certainly been no stranger to executive orders.

Hillary Clinton has to be tired of waiting 4 years for the country to realize she was right

Hillary Clinton called it four years ago when she pointed out then-Republican nominee Donald Trump’s propensity to cry system rigging when he happened to face an undesired result. “You know, every time Donald thinks things are not going in his direction, he claims whatever it is is rigged against him,” she said during the final presidential debate of 2016. “He lost the Iowa caucus. He lost the Wisconsin primary.

Friends testify good character should win accused Arbery murderer bond. Then come the racist texts

Imagine being accused of hunting down and murdering a man in broad daylight, sending blatantly racist text messages, then having the audacity to have your friends argue you should be released on bond because you’re a good person. If you can’t even imagine it, it’s likely because white privilege hasn’t served you with the same optimistic audacity as it has Travis McMichael.

‘I wanted it better for my kids than it was for us’: Mother of activist Ruby Bridges dies at 86

I distinctly remember my mother reading to me author Robert Coles’ The Story of Ruby Bridges, a classic about a 6-year-old girl’s work to integrate a New Orleans school in 1960. The story shows the hateful stares and anger-induced racial slurs Ruby faced on her walk to William Frantz Elementary School, and I’ll never forget wondering how so much contempt could be directed toward someone so young and innocent.

Well, that didn’t go as planned: Observers Trump asks to scope out election fraud find no such case

President Donald Trump resumed his usual claims of pending victory Tuesday in an election that has been called for his opponent, Joe Biden, since Saturday.  “WE WILL WIN!” the soon-exiting president tweeted optimistically and with little regard for reality. Biden has earned 290 electoral votes to Trump’s 214 and secured more than 76 million votes in total to Trump’s less than 72 million, according to the Associated Press.

Let’s stop pretending it’s Black men who almost cost Biden the election

There’s a reason why Black women have been so enthusiastically highlighting our own contributions in the presidential race netting President-elect Joe Biden the election, and it’s not only that his running mate, Kamala Harris, is slated to make history as the first Black and South Asian American woman to serve as vice president. Granted, the new historical precedence is a large part of the reason why, but that’s hardly the whole story.

He ‘didn’t think of them as a product’: Georgetown coach John Thompson dies devoted to his athletes

John Thompson, an esteemed Georgetown University basketball coach and the first Black head coach to win the NCAA national championship, has died at 78 years old, the university announced Monday. And while his personal record in athletics as a two-time champion playing for the Boston Celtics is more than enough to earn him due praise, it’s his personal investment in his players and their 97% graduation rate that have humbled those even outside of the world of sports.

‘The mail is there. It’s just not coming to us’: U.S. Postal Service worker speaks truth

A U.S. Postal Service worker says a “lull in mail volume” has everything to do with President Donald Trump’s presumed attempt to take away Americans’ constitutional right to vote. “They’re trying to shut us down so people can’t vote,” the unnamed worker said in a video shared on social media Sunday, “just basically trying to take away people’s constitutional right to vote to rig the election.

To add insult to injury, a process server tasked with serving her an eviction notice allegedly had to be talked out of taking the woman’s antique rifle.

‘Ms. Jacobs! Is that you?!’ AOC’s Twitter reunion with her second-grade teacher is whole tear-fest

When Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez learned Wednesday she would only be given one minute to speak at next week’s virtual Democratic National Convention, she tweeted the poem “I have only just a minute,” written by late civil rights leader Dr. Benjamin E. Mays. That tweet attracted a bit of unexpected attention.

The attention was paid by her second-grade teacher, who goes by @mjacobs324 on Twitter.

Trump has time to golf as states report more than 1,000 COVID-19 deaths for fifth day straight

The United States’ coronavirus death toll exceeded 1,000 for five days straight last week, but who could possibly expect President Donald Trump to sacrifice a day of golfing because of a deadly pandemic? No one who’s been paying attention to the commander-in-chief’s priorities, which seem to align with bashing liberal state leaders, tweeting about his competitor in the 2020 election, and the heavy-hitter, getting re-elected.

Teen forced to change ‘Black Panther Wakanda Forever’ shirt when Lowe’s customer deems it racist

A Black teen working at a Washington state Lowe’s was forced to change clothes when a customer interpreted his “Black Panther Wakanda Forever” shirt as racist, according to KIRO 7. Kyle Sales told the television station his supervisor pulled him aside last weekend and gave him two options: either buy a new shirt or go home and change. “This is from a movie. Both incidents led to protests throughout the nation.

Both men left behind children who are now without fathers.
